Tire pressure has a bigger influence on how your bike rides than many riders realize. There Is No Perfect Tire Pressure
One of the most common questions riders ask is, “What’s the best tire pressure?” The ideal pressure depends on a long list of variables, including rider weight, tire width, casing construction, rim width, terrain, riding style, inserts, and even the weather. Two riders on identical bikes can end up running completely different pressures because they’re asking different things from their tires. Many riders are surprised by how noticeable a one or two PSI adjustment can be. Drop your pressure slightly, and your tires conform more easily to rocks and roots, increasing traction while smoothing out rough terrain. Push the pressure too low, however, and the bike begins to feel unstable through corners while increasing the risk of rim strikes or burping a tubeless tire.
Add a few PSI, and the bike may roll faster on smooth surfaces while offering better support in high-speed turns. Let the Trail Dictate Your Setup
Trail conditions should influence tire pressure just as much as rider preference. Loose, dusty trails often benefit from slightly lower pressures that allow the tire to conform to the terrain and maximize traction. On wet roots and slick rocks, a larger contact patch can improve grip and confidence, while rocky bike park laps or aggressive enduro riding may call for slightly higher pressures to provide additional tire support and protect your rims from hard impacts. Gravel riders face a similar balancing act. Lower pressures improve comfort and control on rough roads, while longer pavement sections may justify adding a few PSI for better efficiency. The fastest setup isn’t always the hardest tire. It’s the one that matches the conditions beneath you.

Ask riders how they check tire pressure before a ride, and you’ll hear a lot of answers.
“I squeeze the tire.”
“I’ve been riding long enough to know.”
“It felt good, last ride.”

A tire that feels firm in the garage may actually be several PSI below the intended pressure.
