How a Small Program in Laguna Canyon Became One of SoCal's Most Respected Youth MTB Teams

Most people in Laguna don't realize there's world-class mountain bike terrain in their backyard. For the riders that call this area home, the shale-filled chutes and punchy climbs of Laguna Canyon mark some of the best and most storied American terrain. That terrain has shaped some of the world's best riders, and it continues to influence the next generation. For the kids who grow up here, that terrain becomes part of who they are. Few programs understand that better than the Laguna Canyon Riders.

A Youth Program Built on Real Terrain

LCR is the local middle and high-school mountain bike team for students in grades 6–12. What started as a small, homegrown effort has become one of the most respected youth MTB programs in Southern California.

This once grassroots organization is now fully registered with USA Cycling, and every coach and volunteer meets USAC certification standards. Practices run three days a week from January through June, mixing climbing, technical sections, fitness, skills, and group cohesion. Cross-country, enduro, and downhill disciplines all live under one program.

Riders Rising: A Growing List of Standouts

Laguna's terrain builds fitness, grit, and skill, but LCR builds lifelong riders. The program now boasts an impressive alumni list, including two riders who went on to Team USA (Luke Fetzer and Brady White).

The downhill pipeline is equally stacked, with nationally ranked racers such as Mikah Jones, CJ Figueroa, Micah Figueroa, Dylan Lee, Malik Wyman, and Rainy Wyman. Additionally, the team holds two SoCal Enduro Team Championships — a testament to both the terrain and the training.

The Dirt Fondo: A Ride With Real Impact

This year's Dirt Fondo, a fundraiser, a celebration, and a reunion all in one, is proof of how strong the Laguna MTB community really is.

Riders from across the county showed up to ride familiar trails in support of the next generation. The stoke was high. The laps were long. And the impact was immediate. The event even caught the attention of the local press, earning a feature in Stu News Laguna that highlighted both the Fondo and the work being done to support LCR.

A Program with Momentum

Everything about LCR points in the same direction: forward. The coaching is strong. The culture is grounded. The talent pipeline is deep. And the terrain — Laguna's technical, iconic, unforgiving terrain — continues to turn kids into capable, confident riders. They learn how to descend with control. They learn how to climb with determination. They learn how to ride with others, how to fail, how to keep going, and how to find their line even when the trail disappears for a moment under their tires.

That's the canyon at work. And that's the program at work.

The Laguna Canyon Riders and Fix Manufacturing

For Fix Manufacturing, supporting the Laguna Canyon Riders is more than a sponsorship — it's personal. These are our backyard trails. These are the kids riding the same lines we grew up riding. Our tools end up in their packs. Their coaches are in our riding circles. Their races are marked on our calendars.

Support the Next Generation

If the canyon has taught us anything, it's that good lines come back around. Momentum builds. And with the right support, a young rider can go from a dusty trail in Laguna to a national podium.
